SOCIAL MEDIA – In an attempt to achieve profitability, the Snapchat application will now display advertisements directly in the inbox of its users’ private messages
A new feature that might displease some but will not change the use of the application. This Tuesday, Snapchat announced the upcoming arrival of advertisements… in the middle of its users’ private conversations, reports iPhone Addict.
It was Evan Spiegel, Snap’s CEO, who unveiled the new feature in a long press release on the occasion of the social network’s 13th anniversary this September. He explained that “sponsored snaps” would soon be making their appearance on the application.
Advertising revenues still too low
“Promoted Snaps allow advertisers to visually engage with the community, giving them access to Snapchat’s core functionality,” Spiegel explains. “They appear in the chat inbox as a new Snap, with no push notification, and opening the message is optional.”
Wanting to reassure users about personal data, the CEO tells users: “Your conversations with your friends are private and will not be used for commercial purposes.” However, he hopes that this new form of advertising will encourage users to click and perhaps consume thanks to(…) - 20minutes
