JUSTICE – The platform is the target of complaints for its “illegal” use of its users’ data

Better late than never: targeted by complaints in eight European countries, X has definitively committed to no longer using the personal data of its European users to train its artificial intelligence (AI) program.

Elon Musk’s social network had already suspended this highly criticized practice in August 2024, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) announced on Wednesday, September 4.

Grok will have to “learn” differently

The DPC, acting on behalf of the European Union, announced that the legal proceedings it had brought in the Irish High Court had been withdrawn following “X’s agreement to continue to abide by the terms” of the undertaking given in early August regarding Grok, its AI technology.

This is “now an ongoing commitment” on the part of the social network, Graham Doyle, head of communications for the Irish regulator, told AFP.

Complaints in eight European countries

Elon Musk’s social network used the personal data of its European users between May 7 and August 1, according to the DPC, which works in collaboration with European regulators.

The platform is therefore the target of complaints in eight European countries for its “illegal” use of personal data(…) - 20minutes
