Please note, these are installed powers, not storage capacities (which would be expressed in watt-hours, not in watts). In French we clearly distinguish these two words (while the English use capacity in both cases and distinguish on the qualifier, “nameplate capacity” for power and “storage capacity” for storage).

A storage plant is characterized by these two distinct values, the power which indicates the “speed” at which it can deliver energy, and the storage capacity which is the total quantity of energy stored, and will therefore determine the duration during which it can provide energy.

For example, an installation of 100 MW of power and 50 MWh of storage capacity will be able to provide a maximum power of 100 MW and will be able to supply it for 30 minutes, while an installation of 10 MW of power and 100 MWh of storage capacity will be able to provide a maximum power of only 10 MW, but will be able to provide it for 10 hours.

The installation we are talking about here has a power of 750 MW and a storage capacity of 3000 MWh, and the total storage capacity of California exceeds 40,000 MWh.
