Money from the SNB gives MPs ideas but does not change the problem

He said it in December from the platform of the Jura Parliament, Rémy Meury (CS-POP): a payment from the Swiss National Bank (SNB) on his profit was according to him “guaranteed”. But the Government and the vast majority of Parliament did not want to take it into account.
And now the BNS announces a payment of 3 billion from its profit, of which 16.6 million must go to the canton of Jura. So should we revisit the savings measures taken in December, some of which were socially painful?
“Consider the reverse technique”
The Vert-es and CS-POP group, through its vice-president Rémy Meury, is asking for the Government’s opinion by drawing up a list of savings measures taken in December that could be corrected.
Last year, the executive took savings measures for 11 million when it was known that this amount from the BNS would be lacking. “This time, there is a way to consider the opposite technique,” he says.
Free up financial resources
In the Socialist Party, Loïc Dobler, the president of the group, is considering it but only half-heartedly. “We see that this legislature, apart from the arrival of Moutier, will have only been devoted to the aspect of finances. It is tiring for everyone in the long run. It is absolutely necessary that we succeed in releasing financial means to carry out projects and get out of this financial rut”, he underlines.
He still suggests adapting civil service salaries “in the middle of the year, at least in part. But above all, we should take this into account in the 2026 budget”.
Modernize the State, replenish the reserve
Should we therefore reconsider certain savings measures? At the Jura Center, it’s no, according to the group’s president François Monin. “It would be wrong to take these payments into account as something that is due in the budget. This does not push the state to make the necessary reforms. It is essential to continue the saving measures and reforms, the modernization of the State above all, to be able to give itself more margin at the budgetary level We must not undo what has been done.”
Same opinion to the PLR group. Irène Donzé, president: “I tabled a motion for these shares of the BNS to go to the budgetary policy reserve. We should put the money we will receive there and not modify the 2025 budget. We will have big difficulties for that of 2026, it would then be welcome to be able to use the money from the BNS With the cantonal finances, we are obliged to take measures which, it is true, are not very popular. will not miss out on this type of measure.”
