Mark Zuckerberg defends Meta’s “free speech” policy for three hours

Meta is therefore stopping its independent fact-checking program for a community rating system, like on X. Facebook, Instagram and Threads rely on users to report misinformation.

Meta is also increasing the thresholds of its automated filters to reduce deletions, whether justified or not. Although nothing has been officially announced, the company is reportedly ending its core diversity and inclusion program.

During this almost three-hour interview, Mark Zuckerberg justifies this choice by a return to freedom of expression. “The very essence of social media is to allow people to share what they want, in line with our original mission to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.” affirms the leader of Meta.

Except that the timing of this new policy raises questions, just before the inauguration of Donald Trump. Previously, the president-elect accused Mark Zuckerberg of conspiracy and threatened him with imprisonment if he did it again.

The Meta leader says he is optimistic about the future administration and believes that Donald Trump “just wants America to win”. Mark Zuckerberg highlights the importance of a government that defends US technology companies abroad, alluding to pressure from Brussels.

Mark Zuckerberg says the evolution of the moderation policy was long planned. “I was worried all along about becoming the arbiter of world truth” says the Meta leader who talks about the delicate position of influencing billions of users. For him, two moments pushed for ideological censorship: the 2016 presidential election and the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Pour Mark Zuckerberg, X “did better than us”

The Meta executive says the Biden administration allegedly pushed the company to suppress truthful information about vaccine side effects, among other things. For him, “did better than us” in terms of moderation with the community rating system despite the departure of advertisers.

Mark Zuckerberg sees a societal shift in the face of growing distrust of government authorities and traditional media. According to him, Internet users prefer content from social networks and podcasts like that of Joe Rogan.

The Meta leader also reacted to the appointment of UFC president Dana White to the board of directors. The ready-made excuse? Donald Trump would need“a strong personality” to deal with growing global government pressures.
