Car of the Year Morocco 2025: the 7 finalists revealed

The Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM) revealed yesterday, Thursday January 9, 2025, the seven finalists of the prestigious “Car of the Year Morocco 2025” competition (COTY 2025). This first selection was made following rigorous static tests, where the 30 nominated models were evaluated on their aesthetic qualities, their habitability, their equipment, and their on-board technology. Today, Friday January 10, 2025, it’s time for the dynamic tests of the finalists, a final test which will make it possible to designate the winning model, which will be revealed in January.

Among the 30 vehicles initially in the running, seven caught the attention of the jury, made up of journalists and automotive experts, for their design, technology and value for money. The finalists for this edition are the BYD Seal U, the Cupra Leon, the Dacia Jogger, the Peugeot 3008, the Renault Kardian, the Skoda Kodiaq and the Volkswagen Tiguan.

The choice of BYD Seal U demonstrates the rapid rise of Chinese brands on the Moroccan market. This model seduces with its futuristic design and its electrical performance, meeting the growing expectations of Moroccan consumers for electrified vehicles. Alongside it, the Peugeot 3008, the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Skoda Kodiaq, already well established, confirm the unparalleled popularity of compact SUVs. For its part, the Renault Kardian, the latest addition to the French “Made in Morocco” brand, embodies a strategy focused on accessibility and innovation. Finally, the Dacia Jogger, with its versatility and attractive price, reflects a move towards family vehicles adapted to the local market. The Cupra Leon, a model from a young brand, stands out with its new design and on-board technologies.

Today, these finalists will move on to the dynamic testing stage. On the road, they will be evaluated on their road behavior, their driving comfort, their mechanical performance and their energy efficiency. It is at the end of this day of intensive testing that the jury will determine the model which will win the coveted title of Car of the Year Morocco 2025. The official reveal of the winner is planned for January 2025.

COTY Morocco is much more than a simple competition: it reflects the trends and developments in the Moroccan automobile market. This year, the strong presence of SUVs among the finalists confirms the domination of this segment, acclaimed for its versatility and robust design.

The jury, chaired by Hatim Bouazer (LeGuideAuto.ma), also stood out for its impartiality and diversity, bringing together recognized experts such as Jalil Bennani, David Jeremie, and Haytam Boussaid. Their mission: to guarantee that the winning model embodies the values of excellence and innovation that define the Moroccan market.

The election of COTY Morocco 2025 takes place in a context marked by rapid transformations. The Moroccan automobile industry, driven by sustained growth in 2024, is seeing the emergence of new players, particularly Chinese, who are shaking up the domination of European brands. Added to this are the challenges of electrification, still timid, but constantly progressing.

The results of today’s dynamic tests will be decisive in choosing the model that will represent automotive excellence in Morocco this year. This verdict promises to reflect the aspirations of Moroccan consumers and the major directions of the sector for the years to come.
