The closure of the Fnac des Champs Élysées is not the only closure planned for the start of the year. Darty is also going out of business…

While the Fnac-Darty group is in the middle of its 2025 sales, we are learning some very sad news. Earlier already, it surely did not escape you, you learned of the closing of an emblematic blind. The one on the Champs Élysées, a stone's throw from the George V, in the Claridge gallery. At the same time, the brand announced that it wanted to organize a giant clearance sale to sell off its stocks. But the unexpected crowd short-circuited this operation. Race results, the store closed permanently just before the sales. But it's not the only one…

Why did Fnac and Darty merge?

Darty also blames the unexpected closure. As a reminder, Fnac, under the leadership of its president Alexandre Bompard, bought Darty in 2015 for the substantial sum of 720 million euros. If some expected that all Dartys would transform into Fnac, the two brands have continued to coexist for more than 10 years. Fnac has also sold six of its Parisian brands. Darty continued to position himself and even opened new stores. Like that of Vitré, in Ille-et-Vilaine, which,
after only 4 years of existence, closes its doors forever.

A sign closes after a short lifespan

While we are in the middle of the sales period, the Darty franchisee in Vitré welcomed its last customers at the end of 2024. As a reminder, the store is located in the Baratière commercial area. The Fnac group franchise has been present since 2020, with a significant presence in the region. Fortunately, there are other points of sale, such as in Châteaubourg, in Mayenne, Chantepie and even Fougères. On the advertisements, a sale somewhat similar to that offered by Fnac displayed discounts of up to -70%. A little gift for the holiday season, in short.

The Fnac-Darty group follows the series of closures

The Vitré store is not the only one to have closed recently. The commune of Méaulte also had to mourn of his Darty, who disappeared shortly after Sergeant Major. A hard blow for customers, but also employees, who will hopefully have to rely on possible relocation plans. As is customary, it seems, for the brands of the Fnac-Darty group, the franchisee liquidated all its stocks in around two weeks.

Darty had been operating in the area for almost nine years after purchasing the premises following the judicial liquidation of Euronics. On the Champs Élysées, maintaining jobs was the first guarantee. “A position offer identical to the one held, under the same salary conditions, within another Fnac store in (Ternes, Saint-Lazare, Forum des Halles, Montparnasse, Beaugrenelle)”a-t-on appris.
