A vehicle like no other, except…
Early Monday afternoon, we could see that a third “ticket” had been affixed to the windshield of the car in question.
The documents, visible to all, were dated January 2, 4 and 6, 2025, respectively.
Knowing that the checks had been suspended on Friday 3, the first day of sales (at the request of the City), and that the 5 was a Sunday, the shared vehicle therefore did not escape the vigilance of the controllers on the days of checks authorized, i.e. Thursday, 2, Saturday 4 (in the morning) and Monday, January 6.
Beside the point…
Some people will undoubtedly wonder if it is normal for a shared vehicle to be fined for this type of violation.
The answer is no on the sole condition that it is parked in the space reserved for it, which is indicated by adequate signage while generally being closed by a small removable barrier that the user must not forget to activate in the case of rental, precisely to prevent other vehicles from parking in this type of location.
In the present case, the vehicle in question was parked right next to a space officially reserved for Cambio. It was therefore indeed in the space likely to be controlled by CityParking agents who, here, only did their job by affixing the fees mentioned above.
“If these vehicles park outside of these locations they are subject to parking regulations like any other vehicle. Fees are due by the vehicle owner. We do not collect any amounts for Cambio locations”specifies Didier Panneels, On Street Manager of Q-Park Belgium.
At Cambio, we were told that a vehicle from their company must be returned to the station where it was rented.
“If this is impossible for one reason or another, the user must notify us so that we can adopt a course of action in this case,” we add again at Cambio.
If the fault lies with the user alone, it is to the latter that not only the vehicle rental invoice but also the amount of any fees will be sent.
We don’t know why the car was not returned to its original location, but one thing is certain: parking will be very expensive…
