Apple has reached a settlement with a group that filed a class action lawsuit over improper listening to its voice assistant.

Pay not to go to trial. This is the strategy that Apple chose in the face of a class action brought by a group of American plaintiffs. The latter criticize the Cupertino company and more particularly its voice assistant, Siri, for having carried out abusive eavesdropping of conversations and having transmitted them to external third parties.

Accidental eavesdropping with real consequences

Siri activation relies on voice command « Dis, Siri ». However, sometimes this command is triggered by mistake, for example during group conversations where sound similarities can wake up the assistant. Activations that could have served third parties: several complainants report that these private conversations were recorded and used to generate targeted advertisements.
