Middle East – Surface-to-surface missile causes no casualties
No claim of responsibility for the moment, but the Israeli army has said that the missile that fell on Sunday on an uninhabited area in central Israel without causing any injuries was fired from Yemen.
“A surface-to-surface missile was identified crossing central Israel from the east and then falling in an open area,” the Israeli military said in a statement, adding that “no injuries were reported.” “The explosions heard in recent minutes came from the (missile) interception system. The result of the interception is being examined.”
Fire in Lod
Sirens sounded in central Israel before the missile landed, the army said. Israeli media reported that many people then rushed to shelters in the Tel Aviv area.
Magen David Adom, Israel’s equivalent of the Red Cross, said in a statement that its paramedics evacuated nine people with minor injuries as they headed to shelters. Israeli firefighters were extinguishing a fire in the city of Lod after part of the missile fell in central Israel, according to an AFP photographer.
