this car leaves Tesla in its rearview mirror in 2024
Change of course for the European automobile market in 2024. According to figures relayed by phoneandroidTesla is no longer the grand master on the Old Continent. The American manufacturer saw its sales fall, while a small French compact managed to steal first place on the podium.
The Dacia Sandero tops European sales
The Dacia Sandero is the best-selling car in Europe between January and October 2024. As indicated by our colleagues from phoneandroid, this compact city car saw its sales increase by +14.3% compared to 2023, for a total of 224,875 units solds.
The secret of this success? A positioning focused on accessibility. Priced from 12,490 euros, the Dacia Sandero appeals to motorists looking for a reliable and affordable car. Unlike premium electric models, its purchase and maintenance cost remains unbeatable.
Tesla falls to sixth place
Hard blow for the American giant and leader in electricity Tesla, which, after leading the European automobile sales podium with its Model Y, drops to sixth place in 2024. Its electric SUV, in fact, was only sold to 164,123 unitsa figure down from -22.6% compared to the previous year. Despite initiatives such as free access to superchargers for new customers, Tesla is struggling to maintain its momentum in the face of the rise of more accessible thermal models.
The podium is completed by two essentials: the Volkswagen Golf, with 181,927 units sold and an impressive progression of +21,1 %and the Renault Clio, third with 178,584 units, up +7.9%.
