A night race on Sihltalstrasse ends in an accident for three young people. The passengers filmed the risky ride and are now being sentenced for it.
A night race on Sihltalstrasse in Langnau ZH towards Sihlbrugg ZH ended in an accident for three young people in January 2023. The 20-year-old driver exceeded the permitted speed by around 70 km/h and reached almost 150 km/h, as the “Zürichsee-Zeitung” writes.
In the car were a 19-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man who filmed the race with their mobile phone instead of braking the driver. The Limmat Valley/Albis Public Prosecutor's Office found that the passengers, by filming, encouraged risky driving and even encouraged the driver to speed.
The three occupants arrested
In a right turn, where the driver barely braked, the car left the road at around 126 km/h and hit the central guardrail. The authorized speed at this location is 60 km/h. Fortunately, the occupants suffered only minor injuries, although the vehicle was heavily damaged.
After the accident, the three occupants were arrested. The driver is the subject of a criminal investigation for driving.
The passengers received a monetary penalty of 90 days fine of 30 francs, which they will only have to pay if they commit a new offense within the next two years. Added to this is a fine of 500 francs.
