For a long time, the municipality of Beaulieu-lès-Loches wondered what to do with this building, wedged between the town hall and the Saint-Pierre abbey church. Around twenty years, from the moment the premises became unused after the departure of Adapei, until a public meeting in October 2022. “We organized a public meeting to ask residents what they wanted. We had the idea of creating a third place, but we didn’t know how”says Sophie Métadier, the mayor.
Associative café but not only
The birth certificate of Bel Îlot, which Bellilociens were able to discover on Saturday December 14, a few weeks before its official opening. “We really wanted to introduce people to the place, make people want to join us on the adventure”slips Delphine Castaing, the coordinator. Community café, grocery store selling local and essential products, cultural venue: Le Bel Îlot will be a little bit of all that at the same time. “Our desire is to be a place of life, for everyone, which is part of Bellilocian associative life”she adds.
A project carried out in partnership with the municipality, which was responsible for the acquisition of the remaining land and the works, to the tune of €500,000, with subsidies covering between 70 and 80%. The work was carried out in 2024, with the replacement of the joinery, the resumption of electricity, plumbing, insulation, floors and painting.
To discover the interior, just a little more patience, you will have to wait until the end of January.
