Elon Musk tackles a new sector – La Nouvelle Tribune

Elon Musk plans to deploy his satellite internet service via Clarus Networks Group on Far North line trains in Scotland. This initiative specifically targets routes serving Inverness, Also et Wickwith the aim of solving persistent communication problems in the Scottish Highlands.

The Starlink system, managed by SpaceXis based on a constellation of satellites orbiting 550 km above the Earth. This technology will not only be used to provide WiFi to passengers, but also to monitor train performance and safety. A major project, which allows Starlink to continue its development, targeting new markets.

A technological innovation serving the railway industry

The new terminal Starlinkspecially designed for trains, will provide unparalleled connectivity, even in the most remote areas (Starlink’s initial objective). This solution will notably facilitate real-time monitoring of tracks and rapid diagnosis of faults to enable greater efficiency of the train network in this Scottish region.

The technology will also improve the safety of the rail network, notably through the monitoring of unmanned level crossings. This initiative is part of a broader mission aimed at reducing the digital divide in this sector which, for the most part, continues to operate much like it did back then. More digital, to renew a sector that really needs it.

A strategic partnership

Scott Prenticedirector of strategy at ScotRailwelcomed, expressing his enthusiasm about this partnership with Famous to test Starlink. A collaboration that represents a significant step forward in efforts to provide reliable connectivity to passengers and staff, many of whom suffer from a lack of internet access on their trains.
