After the Capri retrofitted to electric, here is the Escort from the 1970s which returns in elitist restomod mode. Count on €356,500 for this car which will be assembled in 150 units.
Last summer, the English company Boreham Motorworks announced the return of two legendary Ford models in the form of Restomod. After unveiling the RS 200, here is the Escort RS then three other legendary Fords will follow. For its part, the engine manufacturer Cosworth joined forces with three British companies to design the Carbon Piranha which is none other than a Sierra reviewed and corrected.
But in the meantime, here is, in detail, the portrait of this Escort Mk1 RS 2000 which brings up to date a model launched in 1973 with at the time a 2-liter four-cylinder engine with 100 hp designed to offer a sporty affordable – like a Renault 8 Gordini on our side of the Channel – and above all adapted to the context linked to the very first oil shock. It was a small success and 5,500 units were produced.
Count on €356,500 per unit
The one that will return from the third quarter of 2025 will be much more weakly distributed. There will only be 150 units assembled because the machine will be billed at full price, besides the sleeve its price will be £295,000, the equivalent of €356,500. For this very attractive price – but which in comparison to the €640,000 of a Totem Automobili or the €714,000 excluding tax of the Mercedes 190 2.5 16 Evo II seems on sale – you will leave at the wheel of a completely rebuilt car benefiting from parts authentic ones provided by the blue oval firm which has signed a partnership with Boreham Motorworks.
Continumod more than Restomod…
The car which weighs only 800 kg makes good use of carbon fiber and benefits from a 1.8 liter engine delivering a power of 185 hp for the base version. More demanding enthusiasts will be able, for a financial supplement, to treat themselves to the 2.1 liter unit producing 300 hp and capable of reaching 10,000 rpm. The latter making vocalizations through a custom exhaust made of titanium. This “big” block also offers an additional gear ratio, the associated manual transmission having 5 speeds, the 185 hp Escort 1.8 making do with a 4-speed manual gearbox.
