“The national rate of increase in the basis for calculating the 2025 property tax will amount to +1.7%” according to final inflation data for November 2024 published by INSEE.
This is only a minimal increase!
But this figure does not concern everyone. You should know that the final amount of your property tax will also depend on the decision of your municipality.
Indeed, municipalities have the possibility of increasing the tax rate linked to this local tax. “The tax rate is voted within each local authority”we can read on the website of the Ministry of the Economy.
In 2023, 16% of them have already chosen this option. However, a large majority of municipalities have “ bet on the stability of their rates”.
This 1.7% increase is indexed to the harmonized consumer price index (HICP), a European indicator close to inflation. classic”.
It is this IPCH, measured in November, which is used each year to reassess the rental value of your property, and therefore to calculate your property tax. Note that the HICP (1.7%) is slightly higher than French inflation (1.3%).
This little gift that should favor farmers
The 2025 finance bill had provided good news for farmers, at least for 400,000 of them… A 30% reduction in their property tax on undeveloped properties, allocated to agricultural operations.
This measure, which should have come into force in 2025, may ultimately not see the light of day following censorship by the Barnier government.
The goal, explains Charles de Courson, is “to make the carrying of agricultural land (that is to say the ownership of agricultural land) more attractive and to reduce production taxes borne by agricultural operators”.
