In the United States, police in San Bernardino County, California, made one of the largest cannabis seizures in the history of the Golden State on Monday. Indeed, nearly 45 tons of drugs were discovered in a recently built warehouse, after neighbors, bothered by a strong smell of cannabis, alerted the authorities.
On site, the police found the merchandise packaged in garbage bags. It took two days and 51 truck trips to evacuate the entire stock, whose value is estimated at more than $100 million.
The police have no leads yet
For now, the identity of the drug’s owner remains a mystery. According to Detective Chris Bassett, in charge of the investigation, no solid leads have yet been established. “We don’t know who owns this drug,” he told the press, emphasizing the complexity of the case.
Although cannabis is legal in California, its production and sale for commercial purposes is strictly regulated and requires a permit issued by the state. Californian authorities suspect that this enormous quantity comes from a network operating outside the legal framework, a practice that is still common despite legalization.
