Preparatory work will begin in February 2025, on land located at the corner of boulevards du Curé-Labelle and Saint-Elzéar Ouest. The purchase of this, the construction of the infrastructure and the various developments represent investments of more than 35 million.
The company’s general director, Martin Gamache, made the announcement on Friday in the presence of the Minister Delegate for the Economy and responsible for the Laval region, Christopher Skeete, as well as Mayor Stéphane Boyer.
“We have been looking for an opportunity to establish ourselves in Laval since 2015. The availability of sufficiently large commercial land located in the heart of the city’s economic activity as well as the zoning allowing outdoor storage required a lot of of research and perseverance. But the exceptional collaboration of the City of Laval greatly helped us overcome these challenges to find the perfect location. For us, it is a very big project which is finally being realized,” said Martin Gamache in a press release released alongside the announcement.
The company expects that this branch, which will be the 36e for Canac, the one with the highest sales volume. Around 200 new local jobs should be created by the arrival of the chain in Laval.
The future building will be 50,000 square feet (4,645 square meters) and will include an indoor and outdoor garden center. A covered warehouse, an outdoor lumber yard and 250 parking spaces are added to the project, which will cover the entire 450,000 square feet (41,800 square meters) lot.
“This project will have positive benefits for our region by diversifying the commercial offering. I emphasize that Canac is one of the retailers who have chosen to encourage Les Produits du Québec, which contributes to strengthening our economy,” said Minister Skeete in the press release.
“With the arrival of this Quebec flagship, Laval once again confirms its power of attraction, its vitality and its capacity to support large-scale investments! », Adds Laval Mayor Stéphane Boyer.
In 2025, Canac will mark its 150 years of history. The company currently has 33 branches, and the construction of three other stores is already planned, in Rivière-du-Loup, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Laval.
Last month, the hardware retailer announced an investment of more than 100 million to add a new building to its Drummondville distribution campus, in particular to serve the new branches.
