The place is intended to be strategic. On the borders of the ring road and the Porte de Saint-Ouen in the 17th arrondissement of the Capital, TotalEnergies has just installed the first fast charging station in the capital.
In place of the old fuel pumps, the energy company placed 8 ultra-fast chargers up to 300 kW. What “recharge the batteries to 80% in 20 minutes and accumulate 100 km of range in 6 minutes” explains Jérôme Déchamps, Director of Network and Mobility Solutions at TotalÉnergies. This depends on your vehicle and its ability to accept super-fast charging.
The price varies between 49 cents per kWh (terminal up to 50 kW) and 59 cents per kWh (ultra-fast terminals). Or a rate equivalent to that charged across the entire TotalÉnergies network. Interoperability allows you to pay with any means: bank card, Fleet and Mobility Corporate card from TotalÉnergies, but also Charge + card are accepted.
Conquering the cities
This station is part of “a global strategy for reconquering and renewing current service stations” underlines Jérôme Déchamps. All energy companies are seeking to convert their traditional urban stations. The latter offer an already pre-established land location and have a strong image among motorists. And above all, a full electric station requires less space than a gasoline pump. The Porte de Saint-Ouen fast charging hub has a land footprint of just over 200 m². With the advantage of not having to « decontaminate the site in the event of closure of the premises ».
TotalEnergies has already opened 250 100% electric stations in France, and wishes to double their number by 2030. Including around a hundred in urban centers. For Geoffroy Boulard mayor of the 17th arrondissement of Paris “the network of terminals is a key issue in the electrification of the car fleet, especially in urban centers where each building or co-ownership does not benefit from charging stations”.
The flow of population and permanent traffic in the city ensures a regular clientele for this type of station. In addition to residents without terminals at home who no longer wish to search for an available public terminal when returning home, taxis, VTC or delivery drivers come to carry out additional charging during their working hours. Open since this fall, “this station is already in the top 5 of the group’s multi-energy stations excluding motorways”, remarks Jérôme Déchamps.
Beyond the limits
For Lorenzo Antognoli, Director of maintenance construction development for the Total service station network in France, the difficulty lies in being able to make “tailor-made to adapt to the urban specificities of each location”. The Porte de Saint-Ouen station is located in the heart of a neo-district including offices, a hotel, a youth hostel, a karaoke and a public car park. It should be integrated into this environment.
On the model of mini markets, the energy specialist intends reproduce in miniature the range of services offered at surrounding stations. Coffee machine, snacks, tablets, mini bench seats, Wi-Fi, allow the driver to wait for the recharge to be done with a minimum of comfort. There are even terminalists to connect the cable to your car. No doubt, in town the stations are back in service.
