Meta’s social networks, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, are inaccessible to thousands of users across the country.
More than 15,000 people have reported problems on the Downdetector site since 12:30 p.m.
Several Internet users also headed to other social networks like X (formerly Twitter) to share their issues connecting to the different Meta platforms.
The company says it is aware of a technical problem which makes “access to our applications impossible for certain users”.
“We are working to restore the situation as quickly as possible and are sorry for the inconvenience,” Meta said in a post on X.
Some features were accessible again for some by mid-afternoon, but several users were still reporting problems around 3 p.m.
“Major disruptions” are also underway for all of Meta’s business services, including advertising services.
