Despite its reputation for reliability, Honda is not immune to recalls. The Japanese manufacturer is returning more than 15,000 cars to its French workshops for a possible fuel pump problem.
Automotive recalls are occasionally updated. At Honda, the 6FE campaign was launched in 2020 to correct fuel pump problems. But it has made a comeback in recent weeks with a revised list of models. Jazzs and even some second-generation NSXs are now being called into the workshop, in addition to the HR-V, Civic and CR-V. The production range has also been extended. Whereas it was previously limited to 2018 and 2019, it can now go from September 2017 to 2020. However, the defect to be corrected remains the same. It is the fuel pump which could seize due to the deformation of its rotor. The engine may then stall.
More than 3 million vehicles worldwide
Changes in the molding process of this rotor and variations in the raw material batches are the cause of this malfunction. To remedy this, Honda replaces the fuel pump at its expense. The intervention time varies depending on the model, but will be less than two hours except on the NSX. The much more difficult access to this rear mid-engined hybrid sports car will result in an operation lasting almost twelve hours! Given the very limited distribution of this coupe, however, few French people will be affected. The other models will represent the vast majority of the 15,690 vehicles recalled in France. Worldwide, according to figures from the German Ministry of Transport KBA, this 6FE campaign even concerns more than 3.08 million cars from the brand! An impressive figure which also allows us to measure the importance of the Japanese manufacturer’s sales around the world.
Which models are affected?
The list of models is quite long and sometimes covers several generations.
-- Honda Civic four-door: model year 2017, 2018 and 2020 (generation code FC1)
- Honda Civic five-door: model year 2017 to 2020 (codes FK6 and FK7)
- Honda Civic Type R: model year 2017 to 2020 (code FK8)
- Honda CR-V petrol: model year 2016 to 2020 (codes RE5, RW1, RW2)
- Honda CR-V hybrid: model year 2019-2020 (codes RT5, RT6)
- Honda HR-V: model year 2018 to 2020 (code RU1)
- Honda Jazz: model year 2017 to 2020 (codes GK3 and GK5)
- Honda NSX 2: model year 2017 to 2020 (code NC1)
These sometimes obscure codes will not necessarily speak to you. But if you are affected by this recall, you should normally receive a letter. You can also check if your car is one of the 15,690 vehicles summoned in France using the online tool made available to you by the manufacturer. To do this, you will simply need the VIN serial number, visible at the letter E on your registration document.
