The general director and editor-in-chief of TVA Nouvelles and LCN, Xavier Brassard-Bédard, announced that he would leave his position on December 11 to take a new job, a TVA Group source confirmed to - on Tuesday .

Mr. Brassard-Bédard worked for 14 years within the TVA Group. He inherited the chair of editor-in-chief of the news room in 2020 after the departure of Serge Fortin, former vice-president of TVA Nouvelles and TVA Sports.

The nature of the position he will occupy after December 11 and the name of his replacement have not been revealed.

Under his mandate, TVA Nouvelles notably announced the end of its weekend bulletins in Quebec, a few days after receiving a favorable opinion from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) authorizing these relaxations.

The TVA Group explained that a precarious financial situation forced the company to cease production of these bulletins, a decision which came into force on June 2.

In a context where the media must find solutions to the financial crisis affecting them, we must constantly reassess our activities in order to reduce our operating costs while maintaining quality coverage.Xavier Brassard-Bédard then explained, in a press release.
