If Michel Barnier's government were to fall on Wednesday, it would bring with it the 2025 Social Security budget for which the executive has taken responsibility by activating article 49.3. Enough to worry the coalition in power, which is already warning of the potentially catastrophic consequences of an absence of a financing bill dedicated to Social Security (PLFSS).
“Depriving the French of a Social Security budget means leaving only a few weeks of cash for Urssaf to pay pensions, reimburse healthcare and finance taxes. Former Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne, now Renaissance deputy for Calvados, had already depicted such a disaster scenario on November 24 on LCI. “If the Social Security budget was censored, that would mean that on January 1, your Vitale card would no longer work. That means that pensions are no longer paid”she declared. But are such risks really credible?
