Taxi reform in Wallonia introduces a new legal framework for street taxis

A reform of the taxi sector will be implemented on the same date, establishing three new categories: special transport, station taxis, and street taxis, operating via applications such as Uber. Vehicles must be less than seven years old and be authorized to operate for a maximum period of seven years.

Sex workers now protected by an employment contract

From December, sex workers in Belgium will be able to benefit from social status with the possibility of signing employment contracts. This new legislation, initiated by the Minister of Labor, grants them social protections, the right to refuse clients or sexual acts, and the possibility of setting their own conditions without risk of dismissal.

Stricter rules for tires during technical inspection in Flanders

From December 1, technical inspections of motorized vehicles in Flanders will be tightened, particularly with regard to tire wear. If wear reaches a certain level, indicated by a wear indicator in the tire groove, the vehicle will receive a temporary red card or a driving ban depending on the severity. A change also concerns the speed index of the tires, now limited to a maximum of 160 km/h, even if the vehicle can go faster. Finally, electronic marking of compliance with European safety standards will be required for vehicles registered after January 2004.
