The Sultan of Brunei’s secret collection is absolutely unreal

Hassanal Bolkiah has ruled the Sultanate of Brunei since 1967. At the head of a very small state located in the north of the island of Borneo whose soil is full of oil, he is known both for his dictatorial practices and his extreme wealth. . But also his crazy collection of cars, known to be perhaps the largest in the world. More than 5,000it is said, including 9 McLaren F1s, 4 Bugatti EB110s, more than 500 Mercedes and even more than 350 Ferraris.

Among these thousands of cars, some of the examples in his possession are quite simply among the rarest and most sought-after cars of all time. Just listing “9 McLaren F1s” and “four Bugatti EB110s” was already making one’s head spin. But as the images published on Instagram by the “Brunei Cars 2001” account reveal, these garages are really teeming with absolutely rare or totally unique vehicles… which can sometimes be found in several examples in its collection!

Five Dauer 962s, a McLaren GT, 3 F1 GTRs!

As the images show, there are 3 McLaren F1 LMs in the collection of the Sultan of Brunei, knowing that the English manufacturer has sold five in total and that each example is probably worth more than 20 million euros. But even more incredible, he also owns one of three F1 GTs. The GT is the road version which served as homologation for the F1 GTR “Long Tail” racing car, the one which competed with the Porsche 911 GT1 and other Mercedes CLK GTRs.

Hassanal Bolkiah also owns five Dauer 962s, this racing Porsche 962 converted for the road which actually won the 1994 24 Hours of thanks to a damn clever reading of the regulations at the time. Five !

But the Sultan of Brunei also owns examples that do not exist anywhere else: in addition to the extremely rare Ferraris for which he does not have exclusivity (F90, Mythos, FX, etc.), he can boast of having been the first person to world to own a Bentley SUV with the Dominator designed just for him in 1990. But also several 456 sedans, Venice Spyders and other Venice Estates (some of which have since been resold).

Also in the extremely rare genre, the Itadesign Nazca C2 is also gathering dust in one of the many rows of the garage. There are also Jaguar XJR-14s, other custom-made Bentleys (Grand Prix coupe, Monte Carlo coupe, etc.) and countless curiosities and other exceptional machines that the general public does not know.

Remember that these images date from 2001 and that since then, some of these cars have been able to be resold. The others probably haven’t moved much…
