Currently, in France, many employment sectors are struggling to recruit. Like the profession of travel agent, which is of little interest to the younger generation, according to a study, another profession is also not finding takers.

What makes recruitment even more complicated are the qualities sought by employers for this position, which are difficult to bring together in a single candidate. To practice this profession, it is necessary to have a CAP baker, but also to justify between 5 and 10 years of experience in a management position, in order to prove one’s ability to manage a team of 5 to 15 employees. Unsurprisingly, this is the job of bakery department manager in a supermarket, which is experiencing a significant lack of qualified candidates, according to a survey by Figaro Employment.

According to Mathilde Joubert, the retail consultant at the Hays recruitment firm, few qualified people come forward to apply for such job offers, because of the criteria. On the employers’ side, there is no question of going back on the qualifications required for this position. Store managers often prefer to wait until they find the person who combines these two criteria rather than making concessions on one of them. They also do not take the risk of recruiting a baker profile who has no experience in management. As a result, recruitment takes a long time. ” she explained.

A job offering an average salary of 3,300 euros

Concretely, to become a bakery department manager in a hypermarket, it is necessary to have a CAP baker and to manage a team for at least 5 years. The bakery department manager must, on the other hand, have the commercial fiber and be good at negotiating, given that he is responsible for placing orders with suppliers. He must also manage the stocks of goods and check the arrangement of the products on the shelves, which must be strategic to guarantee sales.

In the distribution sector, staff evolve very quickly. Consequently, in a few years of seniority, it is possible to go from simple employee to department manager, provided that you have the qualities required for this position. According to Mathilde Joubert, a bakery department manager earns between 35,000 and 40,000 euros gross per year, which is equivalent to a salary of 2,900 to 3,300 euros per month. In addition to a fixed salary, some brands offer department managers bonuses, linked to customer satisfaction during their purchases in store. This is why the department manager must have good interpersonal skills, know how to attract consumers and encourage consumption.
