Philippe Berlan and La Redoute, it’s over. The CEO has decided to leave the company. To ensure the interim, the executive committee will be placed under the supervision of Philippe Houzé, president of the converted company. In its press release relayed by Les Échos, on July 4, 2024, the company thanks Philippe Berlan who “will have played a strategic role in the transformation of La Redoutewhich he joined in 2012”. Indeed, the latter was instrumental in the transformation of the pioneering company in distance selling.

In addition, Philippe Berlan was already in office when Kering decided to sell the company for a symbolic euro to Nathalie Balla and Eric Courteille. The two buyers had to commit 500 million euros to restructure the company. They then sold La Redoute to Galeries Lafayette in 2017 and 2022, for several hundred million euros. To make a good deal, the duo was able to rely on l’expertise by Philippe Berlan.

A departure from La Redoute to take on a new “challenge”

The now ex-CEO had decided to offer a service focused on furniture and decoration, rather than that focused on textiles. He remained implied until the end of his mission. Indeed, at the end of last year, he explained to Les Echos his strategy : “We want to capitalize on our two brands La Redoute Intérieurs and AM.PM”he had assured at the time. In addition, Philippe Berlan had pushed to develop the company internationally. Finally, he decided to leave La Redoute to devote himself to “a new challenge”This should allow him to move closer to his family living in Paris, the economic daily informs us.
