Christophe Naegelen shares at least one thing in common with Michel Barnier. Like the newly appointed Prime Minister, he is a mountain dweller. “I am a pure product of the Vosges mountains,” likes to remind the vice-president of the Liberties, Independents, Overseas and Territories (Liot) group in the National Assembly. He also pointed this out to the Savoyard who received him, with his colleague Stéphane Lenormand, on Monday, September 9. The new tenant of Matignon took the opportunity to show them a photo of the 1992 Albertville Games, which he (very) often boasts of having organized.

The 45-minute interview focused on Barnier’s method – less communication, more action – and the priorities of the independent group of twenty-two elected officials: decentralization, overseas territories, sovereign rights, health and support for businesses, particularly VSEs and SMEs. “He took a lot of notes. He’s a hard worker,” says Christophe Naegelen.

The Prime Minister chosen by Emmanuel Macron “corresponds to the profile that we had described to the President of the Republic”, according to the MP, who also met three times with the Head of State, as part of his summer consultations. Barnier should therefore be able to count on the goodwill of a good part of the small but strategic Liot group, the pivot of this new Assembly.
