This is a hard blow that has just been dealt to illegal IPTV. Europol, the Italian police and several European authorities have put an end to the activities of a major illegal IPTV network. This service, whose name was not revealed, offered content from Netflix, Prime Video, Paramount+, Disney+, Sky and even DAZN.
According to investigation reports, this illegal service generated no less than 250 million euros per month. Losses for rights holders are estimated at 10 billion euros. In total, 2,500 illegal channels and servers were intercepted by the authorities in charge of the case.
Furthermore, the illegal organization operated on a global level. The investigation led to the arrest of 102 people in several countries, including in United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Romania, Croatia and China. Those arrested are being prosecuted for illegal distribution of audiovisual content via IPTV, unauthorized access to servers, computer fraud and money laundering, as reported BFMTV.
In a press releasethe Italian police explain that the group was: “structured on the basis of an associative link between several people resident and/or domiciled in Italy and abroad, with a top-down organizational model, characterized by the presence of associates who held distinct and very specific roles”.
This large-scale dismantling carried out by different countries and different authorities once again demonstrates that the war against illegal IPTV is intensifying.
