With the election of Donald Trump, of whom Elon Musk was the fervent right-hand man during the 2024 campaign, Twitter/X is no longer a place where media, influencers and users feel confident.
The leader is notably more than criticized for his acquaintance with the new president, but also for the growing misinformation and even the hatred present on his social network.
Many departures have been noted in recent weeks, particularly towards more ethical and less toxic platforms, such as Threads and Bluesky. Elon Musk also seems to be reacting by making changes on Twitter/X.
Bluesky makes Elon Musk react with Twitter/X
Last week, Elon Musk announced a surprising change for his social network: the ability to hide likes, shares and reposts. Futurism also defines this as “a suspicious decision which looks like an attempt to hide the drop in energy of the platform”.
The CEO of Twitter /
Developer May Ly also shared the arrival of a new form of interaction thanks to simple gestures on publications (see tweet below).
We are thus facing a step back in time, where Elon Musk rushed out the number of views shortly after buying the platform, thus making it possible to see at a glance the engagement of each publication.
“Why Musk is suddenly concerned about a “cleaner” user interface is a bit of a mystery. Since taking control of the social media platform in 2022, the company has peppered it with a confusing array of colored checkmarks, useless information and a flood of disturbing advertisements,” points out Futurism.
For the media, you have to read between the lines to understand these twists and turns. Elon Musk would indeed pay close attention to the recent growth of alternatives to Twitter/X. It must be said that Bluesky surged to 3.5 million users last week, a massive 300% increase since US election polling day. Earlier this month, Meta’s Threads reached 275 million monthly active people.
“Even Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is paying close attention, with many former Twitter users choosing Bluesky instead of Threads following the election,” Futurism shares.
