After the announcement, it’s time to take action. In January this year, Swisscom unveiled a cooperation with American chip giant Nvidia. The stated goal was then to establish “a cutting-edge AI factory drawing on Nvidia’s industrial leadership and ecosystem,” according to the operator. Swisscom then announced its desire to invest a total of 100 million francs in this project, to “develop generative AI supercomputers in Switzerland”.

Ten months ago, Christoph Aeschlimann, director of Swisscom, had very high ambitions: “A customer must know what use is made of their data, where they are processed and how,” he declared. Switzerland, with its many multinationals, needs to establish its own and trustworthy sovereignty in this area. And this is where we come in: we are developing reliable and secure AI, typically Swiss, in cooperation with Nvidia.”
