Why Suzuki must organize the recall of nearly 30,000 Vitara and S-Cross in

Even though the Euro 7 standard has been relaxed and postponed, manufacturers must already comply with very strict anti-pollution regulations. Far behind safety, the environment is the second major cause of recalls in Europe. Since the Dieselgate scandal, we tend to think that this problem only affects vehicles that run on diesel. But Suzuki is nevertheless preparing to recall in , from the first quarter of 2025, 29,340 S-Cross and Vitara powered by unleaded fuel, due to a risk of significant evaporation of gasoline vapors.

These releases, which do not come from the exhaust, are in fact considered harmful to health and the environment. Automotive brands are therefore required to contain them in reasonable proportions. To do this, they use a kind of activated carbon filter, called a canister and placed near the fuel tank, which could prove defective on the Suzuki models concerned. To rectify the situation, the Japanese manufacturer will replace this canister. He did not tell us the intervention time, but the operation should logically not take long. Even if the alert was launched by the Netherlands, this reminder applies throughout the Old Continent. According to the website of the German Ministry of Transport KBA, more than 466,000 S-Cross and Vitara are affected worldwide, including 42,227 among our neighbors across the Rhine.

A fairly long production range

These high figures remind us that the Japanese manufacturer is far from being a simple “Tom Thumb”. They are also explained by a fairly long manufacturing range. Suzuki is in fact summoning to the garage all Suzuki S-Cross and Suzuki Vitara which were built between the beginning of September 2019 and the advent of the European safety standard GSR 2, which became mandatory last July:

  • S-Cross: models produced between September 5, 2019 and May 9, 2024. Two different generations were offered over this period.
  • Vitara: models produced between September 3, 2019 and May 24, 2024

Please note, these dates correspond to leaving the factory. They are therefore different from the date of first registration that you find on your registration document. As with any official recall, affected owners will be notified by registered mail. No need to call customer service immediately if you don’t receive anything in your mailbox, since returns to the workshop will not begin until next year. But, at least, you won’t be too surprised when the postman passes if you have an S-Cross or a Vitara without the horrifying overspeed alert…

The Suzuki Vitara recently benefited from a second restyling and an adaptation to the GSR 2 standard: these versions are not affected by the problem.
