Users of the social network X are bending over backwards for Elon Musk. He asks them for medical analyzes for his artificial intelligence Grok, and they comply.

Fatten the AI

In recent weeks, X users (formerly Twitter) have had fun donating their medical analyzes for a cause: that of Elon Musk. He wants to feed his own artificial intelligence, Grokto improve it, and make it a substitute for doctors in the future. “It’s only the beginning, but Grok is already quite accurate, and will become exceptional.” explains the billionaire in a post on his social network. He hopes that once his artificial intelligence has swallowed enough data, she will be able to interpret analyzes without making errorsallowing patients to receive results quickly, or to use it as a second opinion, which is important to have.

Those who share such data with Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence either have a lot of composure or blind trust in it. And some have already noticed it. Dr. Bradley Malin, professor of biomedical informatics at Vanderbilt University, questions this decision : “We’re talking about very personal information, and we don’t know what Grok will actually do with it”.

Taking unnecessary risks?

The New York Times explains that in the United States, when you share medical information on a platform made for it, it is protected by law. Health professionals do not have the right to share this information without your consent.. However, this rule does not apply in all cases. What you post on social networks, for example, will obviously not be protected. And that’s precisely what’s happening with Grok. X users volunteering to feed Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence are not really aware of what the billionaire plans to do with their personal data.

And even though X says it does not sell their users’ data, it is interesting to note that they still share it with “collaborating companies”. Moreover, Regulation X states that the company does not seek to obtain the medical information of its usersdespite Elon Musk’s request.

All this, this is without taking into account the fact that Grok could simply give erroneous results. If a patient lives in Uncle Sam’s country, they may find themselves paying for an expensive test or other analysis that they do not need. Something to hate. This is what Suchi Saria, director of the Health and Machine Learning Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University, explains.
