A rumor has been igniting the web since Monday. It claims that the Ukrainian presidential couple bought the latest model of a luxury car brand in Paris, on the sidelines of their visit to commemorate the landing. The car dealership was forced to deny the information.

Did Volodymyr Zelensky buy a luxury car while he was visiting France? This is the false rumor circulating on social networks. Information widely relayed on the web that led a Parisian car dealer to deny it.

It all started with a video published online in which a man presenting himself as a salesman belonging to the Car Lovers group to which the Bugatti dealership in Paris belongs. He explains that he sold the latest model of the brand to Olena Zelenska, the wife of the Ukrainian president, exclusively on June 7, while the presidential couple was visiting France for the commemorations of the landing. In an attempt to give credence to the information, the individual published an “alleged invoice” for the sale of a “Bugatti Tourbillon” vehicle, in the name of the first lady, dated June 7.

A complaint filed

Very quickly, the information was relayed on social networks, by influential accounts, including that of the American influencer and political commentator Jackson Hinkle with 2.6 million subscribers, known for his pro-Russian positions and for having already relayed false information in the past. “The wife of Ukrainian President Zelensky has just bought a Bugatti sports car worth 4.4 MILLION euros with American taxpayers’ money”, he published on X. A post which accumulated more than 6 million views on Tuesday, July 2, the day after its publication date.

“The Car Lovers Group strongly denies both the existence of this transaction and, therefore, the existence of this invoice,” the latter replied. “Not only are the mandatory legal notices not included on the invoice, but the price of the vehicle is also incorrect, the price of the options and their descriptions are inaccurate and inconsistent, the graphic charter is outdated, and the Car Lovers Group would never have allowed the publication of such a document,” lists the automobile distribution group.

The latter states that he has taken legal action and filed a complaint “for forgery, use of forgery, identity theft and defamation, in particular.”
