More fear than harm
Shortly after the man poured a liquid described as orange on the floor of the American fast-food chain McDonald's, many customers of the restaurant became unwell. Arriving on site, the firefighters activated the NRBC protocol, which makes it possible to secure people who have been exposed to nuclear, radiological, biochemical or chemical risks.
After analysis, it turns out that the toxic product used to harm the restaurant's customers is similar to a pepper bomb. Of the thirty-two people who were unwell, ten of them were in relative emergency. No customers of the restaurant were subsequently hospitalized and the McDonald's restaurant was not evacuated.
Also, around ten police officers complained of sore throats, resulting from inhaling the chemical during their intervention. Among peacekeepers also, no case required hospitalization.
A suspect quickly identified
The suspected man, after his misdeed at Saint-Lazare station, innocently boarded a train. It was in Normandy, at the Caen station, that he was finally spotted thanks to the description of a witness who reported that he was dressed in a blue coat and carrying a suitcase.
At the end of the afternoon, thanks to the transmission of the description to the Caen police officers, the man was able to be arrested. The motives of the main suspect are still unknown to this day.
