deep disagreements on the increase in the minimum wage during the debate between Attal, Bardella and Bompard

During the first major debate in view of the legislative elections, Jordan Bardella, Gabriel Attal and Manuel Bompard opposed the increase in the minimum wage to 1,600 euros proposed by the New Popular Front.

The increase in the minimum wage from 1,400 to 1,600 euros net proposed by the New Popular Front stirred up the first major debate organized this Tuesday, June 25 in view of the legislative elections on TF1. Defending the measure carried by the left alliance, Manuel Bompard assured that “(Gabriel) Attal and his parliamentarians and (Jordan) Bardella and his parliamentarians voted against (the increase) on numerous occasions in the National Assembly”, rejecting in passing the “completely crazy figures of 500,000 job cuts”.

The coordinator of France Insoumise (LFI) affirmed that an increase of 200 euros in the minimum wage, as well as a 10% increase in the civil servants’ index point also proposed by the New Popular Front, would trigger a “virtuous circle ” for the French economy, referring to money “injected directly into the economy” by the revival of “popular consumption”.

“A machine to destroy jobs”

“Why don’t you put the minimum wage at 3,000 euros if we follow this logic?” replied Gabriel Attal. According to the Prime Minister, artisans and traders would be “forced to lay off workers” if this increase in the minimum wage was implemented. “For a boss, a trader, a craftsman, it will cost him 500 euros more since you are coming back [aussi] on reductions in charges”, argued the Prime Minister. “It is a machine for destroying jobs”, he said.

On the side of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella also criticized the measure carried by the New Popular Front. “You are lying to the French and you are a social scam”, he addressed Manuel Bompard, for whom this measure could “put a large part of the bosses in difficulty” if it materialized.

“Many will not be able to bear it”, which will create the “conditions” for a “rise in unemployment”, affirmed the president of the RN.

According to Jordan Bardella, “we must allow companies to increase salaries without charges”.
