Xpeng’s new electric car beats Tesla and Mercedes on a crucial point

Just revealed, the new Xpeng Mona M03 tells us a little more about it. According to the manufacturer, this new electric car would quite simply be the most aerodynamic in its category, with a Cd of only 0.194. Enough to beat the Tesla Model S as well as the Mercedes-Benz EQS.

Chinese brands are entering the market in force, which does not please the European Union at all and in the United States. But that doesn’t matter, because nothing seems to be able to stop this wave which is sweeping all over the world.

Many manufacturers are in fact trying their luck, such as BYD, MG or even Xpeng, which is slowly starting to arrive in France since we were recently able to discover the new G9 in Paris. In parallel with its development on the Old Continent, and despite the increase in customs duties, the manufacturer continues to expand its catalog. The latter has just lifted the veil on its latest creation, the new Mona M03.

A design optimized for aerodynamics

Announced last May, this was officially unveiled at the beginning of June and is particularly aimed at VTC drivers in China. Rival of the Tesla Model 3, the Xiaomi SU7 and the new Zeekr 007, among others, this newcomer had revealed part of its technical sheet a few days earlier. But here we are still learning about it, since the manufacturer is still giving news on his account Weibo official.

The latter now reveals a very interesting figure: its Cx, the drag coefficient. The latter simply allows you to know how aerodynamic a car is, and this is of particular importance for electric cars. Because a low Cx means that the vehicle displays low air resistance. And therefore this has a direct impact on consumption, and therefore on autonomy. But then, what is that of the new Mona M03?

According to official figures revealed by the Chinese manufacturer based in Canton, the new electric sedan displays a drag coefficient of only 0.194. And it’s not just good, it’s downright excellent, making this Mona M03 the electric car the most aerodynamic of its category. Very good news for the manufacturer, which does not hesitate to highlight this performance. Even if consumption has not yet been announced.

A promising car

For comparison, the new Xpeng slots between the most aerodynamic car on the market, the Aion Hyper GT (Cd: 0.19) and the Tesla Model S Plaid and its Cd of 0.208. According to the brand, the reduction in air resistance allows its Mona M03 to win approximately 60 kilometers of autonomywhile the manufacturer announces a value of around 550 kilometers on a charge.

A value which is expressed according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, which gives approximately 467 kilometers with the more realistic European WLTP approval. At the front, the motorized air intake alone would allowimprove range by 15.6 kilometers, the 8.8 km aerodynamic rims and the 10.2 km rear diffuser (still in CLTC autonomy). For the record, the car measures 4.78 meters long, 1.90 meters wide and 1.45 meters high.

It is available with several engines ranging from 190 to 217 horsepower, while the battery capacity has not yet been communicated. We still know that these are BYD Blade batteries in LFP (lithium – iron – phosphate). The electric sedan should start deliveries by the end of the 3rd quarter in China, with a starting price set below 200,000 yuan, which works out to around 25,800 euros. A price which should skyrocket if it one day arrives in Europe, due to the increase in customs duties.
