Your Midsummer BBQ at a low price

In order to help our readers cope with, among other things, the repercussions of rising food prices, our new collaborator Myriam Gendron, creator of the site Simply eatoffers a low-cost menu every week based on the best grocery discounts of the week.

Grocery store discounts from June 20 to 26, 2024

With the heatwave, a fresh and simple menu is essential. I have also selected a dessert to share perfect for Midsummer, to cook on the barbecue or on the fire.

Haskap berries, these small local fruits that look like elongated blueberries (although they taste absolutely nothing like them), have started to appear. U-pick has even already started among certain producers in the south of the province. Act quickly, because the season is extremely short: even if we calculate a month in total for their availability, we are talking about three weeks maximum when they are ready for picking. As haskap berries are fragile and sensitive to heat, remember to bring containers and a cooler for the road, to protect them while keeping them cool!

To enjoy them all year round, you can freeze them (once washed and gently dried) flat on a baking sheet and then transfer them to a freezer bag or container.

Have a nice long weekend!
