In its report, the Upper House recommends in particular the holding by the State of “specific action” to influence the strategy of the energy giant, and calls on the latter to make more investments in renewables. But would like not to target only the oil giant.

In December, Yannick Jadot (Ecologists) wanted the senatorial commission of inquiry into the French oil giant of which he is the rapporteur “mobilizes all public policy means that can be considered to put Total back on the right path.” This Wednesday, June 19, parliamentarians publish their work on the company. And if environmentalist senators would have liked the version to go even further, the recommendations could bring about a paradigm shift for TotalEnergies and the hydrocarbon giants, as for the energy transition. If they were followed.

Of the 33 recommendations, only a few directly concern the oil giant, which may appear more spared than expected. Voted by 18 of the 19 members, the report actually reflects the compromise that right-wing senators and environmentalists managed to find. The works are a “healthy balance”, according to Roger Karoutchi, president of the commission of inquiry, who specifies: “TotalEnergies must make much more effort in renewable energies but is in a better position than most of its competitors. […] We are asking for a certain number of changes, but everyone must get involved.”
