Initially, Donald Trump did not appear to have planned to talk about Elon Musk during his victory speech. The president-elect first thanked his family and his vice-president-elect, JD Vance, before returning to his MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement and praising his comeback.
Unlike 2016, when Donald Trump seemed more shy and modest, the Republican candidate transformed his victory speech in 2024 into a political rally, focused on his own glory. He had no words for Democratic voters.
After a few minutes, one of his fans shouted the name “Elon!” », to ask Donald Trump why the boss of Tesla and SpaceX was not on stage. The president-elect then improvised for 3 minutes to recount his connection with the richest man in the world:
“We have a new star, a star is born: Elon. He's an incredible guy. We were sitting together. He spent two weeks campaigning in Philadelphia. He launched a rocket two weeks ago. I saw her, she was magnificent. It was going up to 16,000 kilometers per hour and burning like never before. I asked what happened to the paint, and he said they had never been able to create a paint that could withstand such heat. The rocket was descending and burning. Only Elon could achieve such a feat” exclaimed the president-elect, referring to the successful catch of the Starship.
Donald Trump then continued to talk about the rocket, explaining that he had put a man on hold on the phone for 45 minutes to watch Elon Musk's spacecraft: “The engines were burning, I really thought she was going to crash. But it landed perfectly, the mechanical arms deployed, holding the rocket as delicately as you hold a baby at night. I asked Elon if that was him, and he said yes.
