Good news has come knocking on the doors of some retirees in terms of taxes. So, are you affected by this tax reform?
All retirees fear paying taxes, especially for those whose finances are limited. Fortunately, this situation which is tense everywhere could change, as MoneyVox informs. This, thanks to a positive initiative which could be favorable recently mentioned, this new tax measure should indeed be seen as a godsend by some seniors.
Retirees are not spared
The government, after its effort to reduce the French public deficit, is calling for collective momentum. An initiative which aims to save up to 60 billion euros. Thus, all sectors are explored to obtain a satisfactory result. With an unparalleled contribution, the wealthy are the first to be targeted. Companies with a turnover of between one and three billion are also called upon to participate. Retirees, for their part, are unfortunately not spared from these measures, despite their limited income. Michel Barnier's government intends to postpone the 2025 pension increase until July 1. This will allow the State to raise an additional 4 billion euros.
A surprise in store for these retirees?
However, MoneyVox reports that retirees might have a small chance. A favorable proposal would have been made to the National Assembly and it could be favorable. Thus, the financial pressure of certain seniors should be eased. This measure is none other than “the reintroduction of the half tax share for widows and widowers”. A system established to limit the increase in taxes for retirees who have lost their spouse. Remember that it was eliminated by the State in 2014 for the majority of beneficiaries. Since then, the people who have benefited from it are the widows of veterans and seniors who raised a child for five years while widowed. A decision, which unsurprisingly, has had a strong impact on many elderly people.
A proposal that is not unanimous
This bill gives hope to certain retirees. They thus hope to correct the State's decision which they consider to be a social “justice”. “The removal of the half tax share for widows and widowers in 2014 was seen as a major injustice by elderly people, who saw their income strongly impacted”declares Yonne MP Daniel Grenon. It remains to be seen whether the return of the half tax share will take place in 2025, knowing that this measure is far from unanimously supported by the National Assembly. For now, it remains on hold while the government decides.
