Return of 30-year mortgages: miracle solution for young buyers or financial trap?

The number of credit requests also increased, by 7.5% between the third quarter of 2023 and the third quarter of 2024. A little less than 68,500 credit requests were submitted for a total amount of more than 13 billion euros.

As in the first two quarters of the year, demand for credit continues to grow, notes Febelfin. And therefore logically, the number of credits granted is also increasing. This increase is due to falling interest rates.

The strongest growth in the number of credit applications concerns requests for “other destinations”that is to say for building land, a garage, etc. This category has seen an increase of 40% in one year. This is followed by requests to renovate a home (+23.3%) and for the purchase of a home (+4.7%). On the other hand, requests to build a home fell by 5.7% and those to buy and renovate a home decreased by 1.8%. Concerning the credits granted, only the housing construction category saw a decrease, of 4%.
