After eight months of conflict, leisure employees of the municipality of Saint-Georges, in Beauce, accepted by 91% on Wednesday the settlement offer submitted on October 25 by the conciliator of the Ministry of Labor.
The new collective agreement for members of the Union of Municipal Workers of the City of Saint-Georges–CSN, retroactive to 1is January 2023 and valid until December 31, 2027, grants a 16.53% salary increase.
The hourly rate of $30, the main demand of workers, will be reached on 1is next January. A lump sum of up to $3,000 is also granted.

The agreement also includes the creation of a labor relations committee, a review of the calculation of seniority and more stability in the schedules of arena employees.
The strike was called off on Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. The return to work will take place gradually between November 11 and 15.
“The settlement hypothesis submitted by the conciliator seemed to us to be a good compromise and that is why we agreed to present it to our members,” explained Mario Boissé, president of the union, in a press release.
“Today, I want to salute the resilience and perseverance of union members. It’s never an easy decision to stand your ground and go on strike, but they stood and held on for as long as it took. Their courage paid off and is inspiring!” for her part concluded Barbara Poirier, president of the Central Council of Québec–Chaudière-Appalaches (CSN).
Impacts
Around fifty workers have been on an indefinite general strike since March 2.
A glimmer of hope appeared in early October when both parties were summoned by the Labor Ministry’s chief conciliator.
The conflict notably had the effect of making access to the two ices of the Lacroix-Dutil center impossible, to the great dismay of the minor hockey teams and the North American Hockey League.
