USA 2024: a Frenchman bets $28 million on a Donald Trump victory

A few days before the American presidential election, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are neck and neck in the polls and it is impossible to know this Sunday which of the two will be the next president of the United States. But on the Polymarket site, Donald Trump is clearly the winner with a 65% chance of being elected compared to 35% for the Democrat.

Small useful clarification: Polymarket is not a survey institute but an online betting site. More than 2.5 billion dollars were bet on the outcome of the American presidential election! And a Frenchman intends to earn a small fortune.

A bet “based on his personal opinions”

American media report that four accounts (Fredi9999, Theo4, PrincessCaro and Michie) have collectively bet $28 million in cryptocurrency in recent weeks, or around €26 million. A huge sum which disrupted the bet and placed Donald Trump in the lead. Enough to suggest that the sulphurous billionaire was gaining a head start in public opinion and was actually going to win.

An investigation was therefore launched to find out whether or not these four accounts were trying to disrupt the presidential election. And the result is clear, according to Polymarket: these four accounts belong to one and the same person and there is no evidence of attempted market manipulation. This is a French national with “ extensive trading experience and experience in financial services ».

This Frenchman, whose identity is not known, also reportedly declared having taken “ a directional position based on one's personal opinions on the election “. According to Polymarket, this Frenchman did not want to blow up Donald Trump's reputation and would have pledged to “ do not open other accounts without notice ».

$14 million in winnings?

It is difficult to know how much this Frenchman would win in the event of Donald Trump's victory, since we do not know how much the billionaire's odds were when the millions were bet. But with a 65% chance of victory this Sunday, Donald Trump's odds are 1.54.

Which means that the French bettor, if he had put his 28 million at that moment, could hope to recover 43.12 million dollars, a net gain of 15 million dollars. On the other hand, if Kamala Harris wins, he would lose his entire bet.
