Women filmed naked without their knowledge: Royal Caribbean employee could have caused 960 victims

A Royal Caribbean cruise employee who installed cameras or hid under beds to film girls and women in the shower may have killed 960 people in 14 months, according to a class-action lawsuit filed against the company.

“Who knows how many pornographic images of these unsuspecting passengers will forever circulate on the Internet because Royal Caribbean failed to protect their privacy and allowed Arvin Joseph Mirasol to victimize these passengers,” he said. to Fox News lawyer Jason Margulies, of the law firm Lipcon, Margulies & Winkleman, who represents the victims.

The lawsuit was filed last week on behalf of a passenger on the cruise ship Symphony of the Seas, under the pseudonym “Jane Doe”, filmed without her knowledge by the 34-year-old Filipino, the American media reported.

It also includes “all other passengers in a similar situation”, which could amount to around 960 victims over a period of around 14 months, we can read.

It was last February that Arvin Joseph Mirasol was handcuffed after a mother and her two daughters allegedly found a camera hidden in their cabin bathroom on the ship.

But that was actually just the tip of the iceberg, as the 30-year-old reportedly admitted to federal authorities that he began spying on women and young girls when he started on the boat, in December 2023.

The authorities have thus found numerous videos of minor victims, aged 2 and 17, as well as adult women.

“Based on information and belief, Mirasol transmitted and/or uploaded images [de la victime] while she was undressed and engaged in private activities, to third parties and/or on [Internet]including, but not limited to, the dark web,” the complaint alleged, according to Fox News.

Except that Royal Caribbean would not have informed former passengers in the rooms served by Mirasol during its service, said the class action, deploring an “unprecedented” increase in sexual assaults, including voyeurism, on board cruises.

Because according to the lawyer, the company had found a hidden camera in a public toilet on one of its ships in March 2023 – several months before Marisol joined the team.

“Royal Caribbean became aware of this issue in March 2023 […]but has apparently done nothing since to protect its passengers against such recurrences – like this case, underlined Me Margulies, to Fox News. [Les agressions sexuelles] must be fought.”

The complaint was filed nearly a month after the defendant was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to producing child pornography, according to Fox News.
