The federal budget deficit will be significantly lower than expected. Instead of a loss of 2.6 billion initially announced, the Federal Council is counting on a financing gap of 900 million.

This improvement is explained by lower expenditure than expected. Ordinary expenditure should be one billion less than the amount budgeted, in particular thanks to budgetary appropriations not used in full.

Furthermore, the payment of the extraordinary capital contribution intended for the CFF is postponed until 2025, the Federal Council indicated on Wednesday. This amount increased from 1.15 billion to 850 million following parliamentary deliberations which took longer than expected.

The Confederation now expects a financing surplus of 200 million in the ordinary budget instead of the deficit of 400 million forecast in June. The financing gap forecast in the extraordinary budget remains unchanged compared to June, at 1.1 billion.
