The Guardians of Large disapprove of the designation of Pennavel

The association opposed to the construction of a floating wind farm off the coast of Groix and Belle Île criticizes the inexperience of the designated consortium.

Les Gardiens du large, association morbihannaise opposée à l’érection du parc éolien flottant Bretagne-Sud, d’une puissance d’entre 230 et 270 MW au large de Groix et Belle Île, considèrent que le choix de Pennavel, consortium formé de l’entreprise belge Elicio et de l’allemande BayWa, est une erreur. Leur principal grief : l’inexpérience supposée du tandem. Ces deux sociétés […] have no experience with floating structures at sea, their only reference in the matter being having won together in 2022 a call for tenders for a 960-MW park in Scotland; but this project is only in the study phase”, criticizes the association in a press release.

Chinese material

The association also fears that the consortium will turn to Chinese technologies. For the guardians of the Large, Pennavel is, in fact, faced with an immense technical challenge and experimental technology that is still non-existent on an industrial scale (mainly that of floats and their anchors), in an economic situation which will probably push them to use Chinese equipment, 30 to 40% cheaper that the European . They thus cast doubt on the stated ambition of the German-Belgian tandem to involve European turbine manufacturers.
