Five wines under $20 that are perfect for lobster

The mild winter favored the early start of the fishing season in Chaleur Bay for Gaspé fishermen, also marking the 12e anniversary of the identification 100% caught in Gaspésie, offering direct traceability to Quebec consumers.

In fact, all lobsters caught in Gaspésie carry a traceability medallion which makes it possible to identify the origin of the lobster and its fisherman, and to ensure its sustainable exploitation. With its tender and succulent flesh, its wide variety of sweet and savory flavors, depending on the cooking and the way it is served, allowing creative combinations in the kitchen with ingredients such as fruits, smoked foods and aromatic herbs, lobster is a treasure that just begs to be accompanied by a good glass of wine. Here are five, all under $20, that will give you a lot of fun.

Drink less. Drink better.

France 13.5% – Organic | ★★★ | $1/2 | $18.85

SAQ code: 858324

La Cuvée des Conti 2022, a dry white wine from the southwest of France, is a blend of Sauvignon, Sémillon and Muscadelle grown organically and biodynamically. Above all, it is an exotic taste experience with a tasty and delicious texture. Bergerac, although long in the shadow of Bordeaux, produces quality wines at affordable prices, cultivating the same grape varieties as its prestigious neighbor. The wine exhibits subtle aromas of citrus, honey, spice, peach and herbs, with a fresh and creamy palate, supported by light bitters on the finish, offering a less exuberant experience than a pure Sauvignon, but with more magnitude. Still one of the best deals under $20 at the SAQ.

Benefiting from aging for around ten months in oak barrels, it reveals lemony and passion fruit aromas, with a rich mouthfeel and lively acidity. In the mouth, we discover notes of butter and cream. Tasty and inexpensive, it goes perfectly with lobster.

Les Lilis, Côteaux Bourguignons 2023

France 12% | ★★★ | $$ | $19.95

SAQ code: 15316462

We obviously think of white wine when we eat lobster, but rosé can also make an excellent pairing. The delicate, fleshy and tasty flesh of the crustacean, however, requires an elegant, complex and delicious wine. This one, made from Gamay by the dynamic cooperative Les Vignerons de Bux, a group of winegrowers from the Côte Chalonnaise, offers a very fragrant nose of melon, citrus and strawberry. The palate shows a certain richness with its assumed roundness, but it benefits from a vibrant acidity which brings freshness to the whole.

IGP Quebec 13% | ★★1/2 | $1/2 | $16.50

On an area of 8 hectares, the Lauzon family produces an aromatic and fruity white from hybrid grape varieties resistant to Quebec winters. The wine, the result of a blend of Kay Gray, Swenson White, Prairie Star and Castel, offers floral, citrus and pear notes. Pale yellow in color, it has an almost oily texture on the palate with well-balanced acidity, offering good length and lingering aromas of white flowers and grilled peaches.
