Beautiful, surprising, durable, more or less fast, all kinds of cars are presented at the Paris Motor Show which has just opened its doors in Paris. The opportunity above all to question the choices that consumers make when they actually have to go to the dealer’s checkout. And it appears that, of the 139,000 new passenger cars purchased by the French in September 2024, the choice still falls on small French cars.
Let’s forget the enchanted parenthesis of the show, to return to the flat asphalt with a ranking of the 50 most purchased car models during this past year. A ranking established according to data from the Committee of French Automobile Manufacturers (CCFA) and reported by the specialized magazine The Auto-Journal. Cocorico! Of the top ten best-selling cars in France in 2024, seven are French.
City dwellers in the spotlight
With, on the first step of the podium, the one which still brings together the most sales, i.e. 68,868 vehicles (5.3% of sales): the Peugeot 208. The Renault Clio V takes the second step of the podium with 67,156 vehicles sold, followed by the Romanian Dacia Sandero 3 (59,965). Toyota slides its Yaris into the top ten. Note that it is the BMW IX1 which finishes in fiftieth place. This electric model, with 6,664 vehicles sold, representing 0.5% of sales.
The latter, however, do not hide a downward trend which has been confirmed in sales of new cars since March with a decrease of around 11.07% compared to September 2023, according to CCFA data.
