Cassis&Paprika: “37 people will learn this afternoon that they will be made redundant, despite the takeover of their store”

This Monday, it was announced, during an extraordinary works council (CEE), that 23 Cassis&Paprika stores were going to close down in Belgium. The investment fund specializing in business recovery Futura Capital Fund is about to sign the takeover of 70% of Cassis&Paprika’s activities, or 37 stores.

“In total, 118 people will lose their jobs, including nine at headquarters,” Pauline Gekiere, the main delegate of Setca, said this Tuesday after a meeting with the group’s management. Among the layoffs, “37 people will learn this afternoon that they will be laid off, despite the resumption of their store,” lamented the trade unionist. “We don’t come out (of this meeting, Editor’s note) with anything,” she lambasted.

The trade unionist also regrets that all the people taken over “go bankrupt”. It will be pronounced on October 17, while the activity of the acquired stores will resume, at best, on the 18th.

“The workers will have neither thirteenth month nor paid leave. And in this context, there will no longer be social partners, as the social elections depended on Cassis & Paprika,” she further lamented.

A meeting was planned for Tuesday between the unions and management to discuss the terms and working conditions of the 189 workers taken over.
